Stories about transsexuals and transvestites typically involve one or more standard themes concerned with such characters' treatment of themselves, their treatment by others, their treatment toward others, the events and circumstances of their transitional period, their outing themselves or being outed by others, their sexual lives, their roles (social and sexual), and related topics, most of which are summed up by the following list. Where applicable, I have included the title of one of more stories (on Literotica) as an example of a narrative that is based upon such a storyline.
Abuse: A tranny is subjected to emotional, physical, sexual, and/or verbal abuse ("At Risk").
Acceptance: A tranny is accepted by another or others (for example, a young man brings a tranny home to meet his parents, and they accept her). (This storyline involves the acceptance by others rather than the tranny's acceptance of her own transgender status and nature.) ("My Brother, My Sister
Appreciation: A tranny is appreciated by a "straight" man or another ("At Risk," "Beefy Buns," "Boy Meets Girl").
Blackmail or extortion: A tranny who wants to remain in the closet is blackmailed or extorted ("All You Can Eat," "Teacher's Pet," "Everybody's Somebody Sometime.")
Chance encounter: A tranny finds romance or a relationship as a result of a chance encounter with a "straight" man. (In this storyline, she is the seduced, rather than the seducer.) ("End of the Line," "The Best Policy," "Triptych," "Two For One")
Conflicted emotions: A tranny feels conflicted about her transgender status or nature. ("A Reconciliation," "Boy Meets Girl," "Everybody's Somebody Sometime")
Disapproval: A straight man, offered a chance at true love, rejects the tranny who offers it ("Boy Meets Girl," "Samantha")
Discrimination: A transitioning tranny learns about chauvinism, misogyny, and sexism ("Boy Meets Girl," "My Brother, My Sister," "Picture Perfect")
